summer project [27 May 2007|03:02pm]

We're beginning work on a project for this summer. It's going to be sort of mockumentary about GDF. What we need to get an idea of is who wants to be involved.

So, let us know if you want to be in it and specifically:

Do you want to be interviewed?

If so, do you want to improvise it or have us write a script for it?

Do you also want to be in scenes from movies we've "made"?

Leave a comment or call myself or Dan Szolovits.

Trampoline Movie [22 Aug 2006|08:45pm]

[ mood | calm ]

I'm preparing to film a GDF short tomorrow late afternoon. I need two girls. If not two girls then at least a girl and a guy. Comment here if you're free from 3PM tomorrow. It's only a five minute script and shouldn't take too long to shoot as well as being a lot of fun. IM me for a script.

Go Team!!

GDF running gags [01 Aug 2006|10:51am]

Are there any running gags in our films besides:

- "Ooh, a nickel/shilling."
- "Ow. My balls/ass."
- Nochur Enterprises

If not, I think there should be more in our upcoming films that draw upon jokes made in previous GDF productions.

Also, the slasher flick will be delayed until winter break. Let me know if you would like to be in it... the setting will most likely be at a high school reunion party where the characters are killed off one by one.

Premier [28 Jul 2006|12:51pm]

Do you like movies?! Would you like to watch one?! Cool, because we made one.

It's called "Life Fucks with Zelda". You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll do some other stuff.

The premier will be on Saturday, August 5th, at my house. Festivities begin at 7:30 pm. The actual movie watching begins at 8, starting with the short feature, "Tim and Dan Make a Good Movie". Then proceeding to "Life Fucks with Zelda". People should be there before 8, so that they don't miss any of the movie.

If you don't know how to get to my house, call me and I'll give you directions.

So: Tim's house, 8pm on August 5th.

Be there.

Slasher film [28 Jul 2006|11:53am]

Leetal and I are going to finish writing our slasher film in the next few days. It will not be too long (maybe 10-20 minutes), and we have decided to cut the total cast down to 6. We should be able to film this over a few days when Leetal is in town (August 6-10).

I don't have a camera or editing software so I will not be able to direct. I may be very busy at work too so I'm not sure about my availability to act either.

Does anyone want to:

1) direct and/or edit?
2) act in the film?

Let me know.

Casting Call for Beitelheiser [27 Jul 2006|11:58am]

I am directing a short-subject film which will be around four minutes long, give or take. I plan to shoot it some time in the coming week. We will probably be able to film it in a single day, provided we can do things quickly. The actor playing Beitelheiser will have the most work and will have to do some post-production voice-over work.

The premise is this:

A famous Swiss Psychologist, Gregor Von Beitelheiser (BEE-tel-HIGH-zer) is being interviewed for a world-renowned and respected news program about his eccentric methods. We then take a look at his methods through a visual simulation (as in, we act out his mental journey.) Stylistically, think of the French Surrealist film portion of Jonah's Compass but shot from multiple angles and taking four minutes.

I need to cast three parts.

Beitelheiser - someone who can do a silly German accent and pull off high-status.
Gemini (and Gemini's twin) - someone small enough to ride of Beitelheiser's back for a portion of the film.
Aphid - someone who can look serene (interpret as you will.)

Anyway, if you are interested, let me know. We'll do a read-through before we start filming. I'll schedule it around your schedules.

[26 Jul 2006|02:43pm]

Can somebody at least give me a little feedback on the music video idea? The song's fantastic and deserves a video. Plus, I feel like it wouldn't take more than two days to film. All we'd need is another guy and two girls (and the two girls would only be needed briefly)...

Good Advice [26 Jul 2006|01:10pm]

We at Genetically Delicious Films have some work to do. I realize (realized mostly in my experience of co-directing Jonah's Compass) that a large number of the people we get to act in these films do not enjoy the filming process. I do not blame you for this, because after all, not everyone is a film nut and not everyone is passionate as the directors about creating a brilliant finished product (again, no blame is laid here.)

But here's some good advice about making amateur movies.

I think that in order to improve the quality of our films we need to do a number of things that aren't mentioned in the article (though I agree with nearly all of the points he makes.)

- Take the necessary time to get every shot right. No half-assing, no saying "oh well, I don't think people will notice you started to laugh during his line."

- Cast small, write economically. This will aid in the previous goal, because I feel a lot of our problems have to do with impatience and loss of focus. If we have less to film, we can focus more on the quality of it.

- Confirm casting and locations ahead of time. For the most part we're okay with this, but I think one of the main areas we are lacking is in pre-production. We should never decide on the day of filming to change locations or actors. I realize this is never on purpose; it is because of a location or actor has been met with an unexpected conflict. Still, the earlier we plan these things ahead, and the more we keep the schedule current in people's minds, the less likely people are to forget.

- Pre-production, pre-production, pre-production. It's more than writing the script. All too often, things are done as we go along. For example, in Jonah's Compass, we weren't even sure how we were going to do the driving scenes until halfway through production. Additionally, I've heard many complaints/embarrassed statements of people not reading the script beforehand. We need read-throughs. Granted, something like Jonah's Compass would be hard to read through with all the characters, but at the very least, we should have read through it with the main seven.

The basic gist of what I'm saying is that we need to be more organized and planned-out. We need to take our time and shoot for a higher standard of production value.

If you have other suggestions, please feel free to share them.

TheHeist music video. I want it done. GDF or otherwise. I'd want to play the part of Jorma (the breakup guy) so we'd need an Ardy and a Pam (and I'd like a chorus of girls to film during the breaks, but it's not necessary). I'm making a list of shots we'd need right now. Let me know if you're interested.

I'm still working on this, but here:
Shots. Keep in mind I've never done this beforeCollapse )

Um... Newton Walk is scheduled on July 23rd (this Sunday), but I and several others are also scheduled to film that day.

Newton Walk has to be either this or next weekend, since one of the co-founders will be out of town after that.

Tim, how are we resolving this dilemma? Please let me know.

Interest? [28 Jun 2006|06:58pm]

Tim and I will be casting Life Fucks With Zelda in the next few days. Is there anyone who wants to be involved but has yet to tell us so? Some of you may be interested that there are many small roles available that will be fun to play and require a minimal time commitment.

Let us know. Comment or call us.

New Project! [24 Jun 2006|01:24pm]

Hey y'all,

Tim and I have been working on a short film called Life Fucks With Zelda. It's about a young, bitter misanthrope who declares a war on life to make everyone as unhappy as her. Hilarity ensues when life begins to fight back. It's a small cast that would probably have room for a lot of extras so we wanted to know who would be interested. The filming would be done in July to be finished by the beginning of August if not earlier.

Anyone want to help?

ice cream wars [19 Jun 2006|11:03pm]

In light of recent rumors that the Crips gang is in Newton, Ari Fertig and I have come up with a brilliant idea: a GDF film about gang rivalries in Newton! The Crips hang out at J.P. Licks, the Bloods hang out at Coldstone, and the two groups battle each other for control of the Newton Center parking lot. Who will prevail in this battle for the soul of Newton? Will the future of the safest city in the country be changed forever? We don't know, because the script hasn't been written yet! But perhaps this seed of a movie, if watered properly, will blossom into the feel-good hit of the summer...
